BLACK MILLENNIAL MOVES POLITICAL

CALL TO ACTION

SIGN UP FOR ELECTION ALERTS

 THE WHY?

Sometimes life gets too busy and we FAIL TO prioritize the importance of voting in not only national elections but also local elections that impact us the most.
Signing up for reminders will help keep you informed about the elections near you and also is a helpful tool to use to plan to do one of our most important civic duties.

RESOURCES

CALL TO ACTION

Get to know 5 of your elected officials (US Senator, US Congressperson, State Senator, State Representative, City Councilperson). Research their positions on issues you care about. Set up a meeting or call with at least 1. Post proof of you starting the meeting or call (email, screenshot the request form/confirmation, etc)

THE WHY?

Our elected officials are our voice- but often we don't know them or what they do. We have a responsibility to know who is speaking for us and hold them accountable if they're not. Knowing your voice on all levels (city, state, and federal) is crucial to our path forward. Don't like what they're doing? Find out when they're up for reelection and work to get them out!

CALL TO ACTION

Find 5 Black candidates you like across the country and find out how you can help get them elected or re-elected- then do it. You can volunteer to knock doors, make phone calls, send texts, write postcards- whatever they need.

Tag your candidates in the comments and what you're going to do to help them win.

THE WHY?

Politics are largely made up of old white men. They make decisions that will largely affect us for generations to come, but our voices are rarely in the room where decisions are made. It's time to not only have more black candidates, but black candidates that can be trusted to be our voice when we can't be there. It's great to tweet about a candidate, but many black campaigns are under resourced and need all the help they can get.

“Give Me 5”
You are responsible for five people in your circle. Make sure they are registered to vote, have a voting plan, know who is on the ballot, cast a ballot and complete their 2020 census. Click the link below to get your five people to fill out the form for the five bullets.

THE WHY

Many people in our community don't quite know how to make an impact. They feel as though their voices go unheard. This is an easy way to help make a difference in our community through political leverage. In order to change the way our communities are being taken care of, we must have people in power who care to help. By voting and having being counted in your area, you can very well make that change you seek.

CALL TO ACTION

Find 5 black candidates that you support on any level, and give at least $20.

WHY?

The candidate in any position needs finances to raise awareness to their cause. They launch their political campaign and travel all over the world reaching out to communities in each state. Donations play a major role in how they can reach as many people as they can. Any donation inches those candidates you favor a little closer to their goal. The black dollar already holds much value in our society, we just have to shift that power to the right people that are supporting us.
